About

Beata Stencel

Photographer, London, UK

I am a Polish born Photographer, based in London. I grew up in Poland and at the age of 19 I moved to Oxford to study Art and Design at the Foundation Level. After completing my Art and Design diploma I gained another qualification in Graphic Design. I then moved to London to study BA Photography and Moving Image. Since graduation I divide my time between commissioned and personal projects. I work predominately in stills photography and my practice explores the nature of visual perception, human altered environments, various aspects of consumerism as well as social anthropology. I often work with everyday objects, mostly discarded and unwanted in order to create extraordinary universes and places of wonder. A reoccurring key within my practice is discovering the hidden and the unknown, and by experimenting with the medium, boundaries between reality and fantasy become blurred. My photographs and texts have appeared in online publications such as GUP International Photography Magazine (NE), Yet Magazine (IT) amongst others and my video work appeared on websites such as Nick Knight Show Studio.
